Hello everyone
I want to use AWA method to research wave-induced scour,it will reduce the longth of normal NWT. But when i simulate cnoidal wave,i find the trough is not correct. So i want to ask if there are some additional parameters to be set or there are some mistakes in my contral. I hopo you give me some suggestions. I have attach my control,ctrl files,simulation result. The version which i use is REEF3D-23.11 and DIVEMesh-23.11. control file C 11 6 C 12 3 C 13 3 C 14 7 C 15 21 C 16 3 B 1 0.02 B 10 0.0 4.4 0.0 0.02 0.0 0.8 M 20 2 M 10 24 ctrl file B 10 1 B 50 0.0001 B 90 1 B 92 6 B 91 0.1 8.8 B 98 4 B 99 3 D 10 4 D 20 2 D 30 1 F 30 3 F 40 3 F 42 0.8 F 60 0.40 I 12 1 N 40 3 N 41 60.0 N 47 0.20 M 10 24 W 22 -9.81 P 10 1 P 30 0.1 P 52 0.01 P 53 1 P 55 1.00 P 50 0.2 0.01 P 51 0.2 0.01 P 50 0.7 0.01 P 51 0.7 0.01 P 50 1.2 0.01 P 51 1.2 0.01 P 50 1.7 0.01 P 51 1.7 0.01 P 50 2.2 0.01 P 51 2.2 0.01 P 50 2.7 0.01 P 51 2.7 0.01 P 50 3.2 0.01 P 51 3.2 0.01 P 50 3.7 0.01 P 51 3.7 0.01 P 50 4.2 0.01 P 51 4.2 0.01 P 61 0.7 0.01 0.01 P 61 1.2 0.01 0.01 P 61 1.7 0.01 0.01 P 61 2.2 0.01 0.01 P 61 2.7 0.01 0.01 P 61 3.2 0.01 0.01 P 61 3.7 0.01 0.01 Last edited by mapleleaf; June 4, 2024 at 11:03. |

Hey,
AWA might not always be the best option for wave absorption. The velocity profile of your Cnodial wave is inherently different from shallow water wave theory You might try B99 4 or 5, yet I think for accurate wave absorption most of the time the relaxation zones work best. So I would suggest you try B 98 4 + B 99 2 together with a relaxation zone of 8.8 m? (B 96 0.0 8.8). You might find sufficient accuracy for shorter relaxation zones, but I guess that is sth. you have to test for yourself. Maybe somebody else has a better solution. Kind regards Felix |

AWA works actually quite fine for these types of conditions (long waves in not too deep water). We have done this successfully many times (see Nadeem's paper: https://www.reef3d.com/wp-content/up...de_by_side.pdf)
I would choose another wave theory though, just go with B 92 8 (in case these are the correct conditions for cnoidal waves). |

Hello everyone,
I saw a post that the AWA method can be utilized for waves with long wavelengths, as in Nadeem's paper ( https://www.reef3d.com/wp-content/up...de_by_side.pdf) that considered the use of the AWA method. (I actually input the paper condition and analyzed it, and got the same result.) ) I changed the conditions and performed the analysis for waves with relatively short wavelengths (water depth: 0.5 m, wavelength: 2.7 m), but the wave height decayed and the ideal results were not obtained. The wave height is input as 0.071 m, but the output result is only about 0.047 m. Is it still not possible to use the AWA method for waves with short wavelengths? Attached is a figure of the analysis results. (wave height, scouring pattern, ctrl, control file) Thank you. |
