I am trying to learn how to use Pointwise for 3D meshing and I have encountered some problems when it comes to selecting boundary conditions.

The mesh I am playing with at the moment is the PipeInACube which is one of the tutorials that come with the software.

When selecting BC, I would like to give the pipe inside the cube a wall condition. However, selecting those two domains that make up the pipe is not possible for some reason... And looking in "List, Domains" those two domains are also greyed out...

Why is this? And how should I go about setting BC for these two domains?

Thanks!

Hi Filip. It sounds like you haven't created any blocks yet. Boundary conditions can only be set on regions of blocks. Make sure you have set your CAE solver to something that's 3D. Then you can set BCs.

I have created two blocks. One between the "exterior of the pipe"/"interior of the cube" and one of the "interior of the pipe". I can set BC to all domains except for the pipe...

OK, strike one for me ;-)

The fact that you made two blocks (inside and outside the pipe) is the culprit. In the current production release you can't overwrite a connection with a BC. You can in the version that should be released before the end of Nov.

If you delete the block inside the pipe and only model the fluid between the pipe and the box, you'll be able to set the BC.

That restriction will be lifted in V16.04.

Thank you for your answer!

FYI, Pointwise V16.04 has been released. Download it from Pointwise's web site.
