I am aware that the new file standard for CGNS files is hdf5 now due to its parallel capabilities over the adf format, however, I would like to continue to support adf. I saw on https://www.pointwise.com/doc/user-m...utes/cgns.html that I can switch between hdf5 and adf as a file type for my CGNS file export, however, it seems I can no longer set the solver attributes in pointwise? Is there any way to write your CGNS files with the adf standard?

The adf/hdf5 option is under the CAE, Set Solver Attributes... menu.
This choice should be made before exporting via the File, Export, Grid... menu. *** EDIT *** I just tested with V18.2R1 - there is a bug. No matter which option is set (ADF/HDF5) the CGNS file is always written as HDF5. Please contact Pointwise at support@pointwise.com or the website and log a bug. thats the thing, I can't access "set solver attributes" when I have CGNS selected as solver (so I couldn't even try to set hdf5 or adf). I figured in the end it would just be better to rebuild CGNS with hdf5 which I eventually managed to do, so I can use my files now again, but thanks for the help and checking

If I understand correctly, what you described is even worse!
Are you saying that in your Install of Pointwise:
Which version of Pointwise are you using? Please log a bug with Pointwise support if what I am describing is true. Last edited by dgarlisch; October 29, 2018 at 10:34. Reason: image |

Yes, what you are saying is correct. I work under UNIX so I have configured my bashrc script to always load pointwise for convenience, in this case pointwise version 18.0R2. However, if I use the latest version available to me (V18.0R4) then I am able to access the set solver attributes. Seems to be a bug indeed. I updated my bashrc script so it is working fine now for me, will log a bug anyways. Thanks for your help.

Do NOT log a bug. The version you are using is very old.
The ability to choose ADF/HDF5 was added in V18.1R1 by the feature PW-18081 Option to Export CGNS with HDF5 or ADF I strongly suggest you upgrade to the latest build V18.2. |
