My machine has 2GB RAM but the maximum memory that PHOENICS will use in a run is only around 1.2GB. I have altered the boot.ini file as advised to get 3GB of space, but each time I increase the F-ARRAY in the CHAM.ini file over 310000000 I get 'insufficient virtual memory'error message. I haven't relinked earth with /LARGEADDRESSAWARE because to be honest I don't know how to do it. Could anyone advise me? Thanks in advance

I'm currently using v3.6.1. You can no longer do this. Thanks anyway!

Sorry the cause of this is unknown presently...

Quest/ I had been able to run jobs with grids up to 2 million cells on the 2Gb machine with 3.6.0. Now my limit seems to be around 1.2 million. Could this be caused by the cut cell geometry calculations, or was some other change made in 3.6.1 that effected memory usage?

Answer/ With Parsol left on, I am able to run this case on my PC here, which only has 1 GB of RAM. The model uses an F-array of 122104786 cells. With the Editor also running I am getting a memory usage of 860 MB. So, this shouldn't really cause you problems on a 2 GB machine.

But, having said that, we have had Q1s here which would load onto a PC with 1GB RAM but not onto one with 2GB! And what we did find was that if we took out one of the 1GB memory chips then the case would run on the latter machine. We were unable to trace the root of the problem here.

I can't think of any changes to the dynamic array allocation between 3.6.0 and 3.6.1. I have spoken to the installations guy here, and they were both compiled with the same version of the Compaq compiler version 6.6 (as it comes out of the box, without any of the updates available on the web).

I would blame the memory management of the Windows operating system, but then you say you can still run this case with version 3.6.0? We shall have to think more about it here.

Dear

Thank you for every think, I am "Mohammed Alzuhairy" Iraqi engineer and Ph. D student in Chemical Eng. Depart.,and lecturer in Chemical Eng. Depart., University of Technology(Baghdad-Iraq), I read your Message in site(http://www.cfd-online.com/Forum/phoenics.cgi). Dear My research focuses on the implementation and validation of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) tools for Heat transfer in bubble column(gas-liquid-without reaction)., therefore I need CFD Software to setup in my computer(laptop) because it will help me so much to complete my PhD research as "heat transfer in bubble column for viscous liquids"," Nonlinear analysis; Dynamic modeling" Dear you know that I am Iraqi engineer and I live in Iraq in Baghdad exactly not in Japan or USA or . . . ?, so I can't write my state and zip code in internet forms and I have no credit card, no deal with it in Iraq, then I ready to pay any sum of money, but how?. If you want to help me please send me(post it) to my address as shown below(my University) cd of CFD (package Cham (record on cd)) and I ready to send you any or all informations about me or my Ph.D research and also I ready to send you all results of my reseach as you like.

With my Best Wishes . . .
