I am interested in simulation of combustion in the internal combution engines. Is phoenics has this capacity?

Dear Mechighel

Combustion in engines is a very complex issue to study. 3D compressible fluid flow, turbulence, heat echange and chemical reaction are phenomena you will deal with (I presume).

As far as I know PHOENICS can handle all this phenomena, so I am sure you will can simulate the cases you want. Please, donīt tell PHOENICS canīt solve this problems if, after six months, you havenīt results. I know very capable peoples who have employed several months to obtain results in such complex systems.

Have you check the CHAM web page for info? (www.cham.co.uk)

Regards

Kike

dear kike, thank you But there is a more effective code developed by Los Alamos center called KIVA.

Dear Mechighel

I has no doubt about the effectiveness of a code developed by people from Los Alamos Center, but about the adverb "more" you used. You donīt know PHOENICS so, how can you compare?

I am not saying the contrary (ie. PHOENICS is more effective than) but I just want to point that this OPTION is more effective for you. It could be because you donīt want to spend time to learn how to use PHOENICS, or maybe because the code KIVA is exactly what you were looking for. Anyway, I wish you good luck.

Regards

Kike

Dear Mechighel Farid,

CHAM did a lot of work on this topic in the late 1970s and 1980s. There are many published papers (and at least one thesis) describing work on combustion in IC engines using PHOENICS.

I suggest you look at the "Publications List" to be found under "Documents" in POLIS. This list is searchable, and the papers may be obtained from CHAM.

I hope your research goes well!

Kiva is very specific to internal combustion engines and allowe for things like moving valves, moving pistions, etc., as well as complex inlet and outlet manifolds.

The main reason I chose PHOENICS is because it uses the CHEMKIN software, allowing essentially arbitrary reaction schemes.

Dear PattiMichelle,

Thank you for your mail that you have sent to me on: Wed, 6 Feb 2002.

So Can you, PLease, tell me how I can find a training period about KIVA-II or KIVA3-V code use.

I work about the subject of my PhD thesis: Modelling of SPRAY in internal combustion engines.
