Blur of grafic display of cavity in paraviev

Hi!
Im a new user of openfoam and paraview. Im using a laptop inspiron 1300 from dell. It has the following grafic card installed: GMA 900, Intel 910GML 64 MB (med 256 MB systemminne) eller 128 MB (med mer än 256 MB systemminne) And im not sure if it is sufficient for these programs. While I run a mesh test of cavity tutorial i get a strange trace of grafics ,from the block representing the geometry, while turning it. I have made the same installation on my stationary computer but there it works fine. question: is my laptop insuficient? or does it need a different configuration? Thankfull for replies! /Erik |

Hi Erik,
I also have problem with paraview on my laptop (also running Ubuntu 5.10). I get correct graphics on the leftmost bottom quarter of the display area. The other quarters do not refresh properly. Is this what you are experiencing? I suspect that the problem is not within paraview, but he xorg i810 driver. 64 MB should be sufficient for the graphics memory. I will look further into the problem in the middle of this week when I will be forced to work on the laptop. In the meanwhile, you could try using the "vesa" driver in the "Device" section of /etc/X11/xorg.conf. |

Hello Rasmus!
Thanks alot for the tip! That's exactly the problem im having. Now I have problems editing xorg.conf, it seems to be locked somehow. I'll just minimize my object to the lower left corner in the meanwhile. I would really appreciate it if you would share the knowlege of how to edit it correctly once you got everything upp and running Thanks again /Erik |

Hi again. I just thought about something. To check if it is a memory related problem, you could try lowering the screen resolution. This is changed in system preferences->screen resolution I believe (do not have the lap-top here). If that does not work, try again to edit xorg.conf. You need to have root priviledges to do so. Try with
sudo emacs /etc/X11/xorg.conf and change from i810 to vesa. After that you need to restart X which is easiest done by pressing ctrl+alt+backspace. (remember to save your work first). Good luck! |

I wasnt allowed to change my resolution in the window you described (probably a limit of my knolege of this os) And i didnt have emacs installed but I managed to make the alteration thru gedit (text editor) with the same command line. now I have a full sceen and no blur.Thank U. It might not move as smoth as before but it works. regards /erik |
