Hello all,

I have two problems with paraview that I think may be related. First, when I try to launch Paraview from the terminal, the application fails to launch with the following error:

Code:
ERROR: In /home/daniel/projects/ParaView/VTK/GUISupport/Qt/vtkEventQtSlotConnect.cxx, line 68
vtkEventQtSlotConnect (0x23ee220): Cannot connect NULL objects. Segmentation fault
However, I can successfully launch Paraview by double-clicking the paraview executable file.

Second issue: when I try to load a previously saved complex state, Paraview crashes. Simpler states (annotations to the visualization) load without crashing; more complex states (calculator and plot of data from calculator) crash the program. Unfortunately, I cannot see the error that causes the crash because of problem 1: I cannot launch Paraview from the terminal.

Could anyone suggest something that could address either of these problems? I would greatly appreciate any assistance.

Thanks,
Dan

hi!
I have the same kind of problems. paraView crashes, with a "Erreur de segmentation paraview" message. Or something like:
Code:

From time to time, it crashs only because I resize the window.
I has been working well for more than 2 hours, and then, while "turning" around my object, it suddently crashed.

Any idea about how to make it more stable ?

More precisely: I ran paraview; click on "open state". then it took some minutes (which normal), but half a second after refreshing the screen (I saw the correct picture), it crashed: the window closed, and the terminal said "Erreur de segmentation"...

Hi,

I have had exactly the same problem with vtkEventQtSlotConnect.

configuration:

- ubuntu 12.04
- OpenFOAM-2.1.x with ParaView-3.14.1 compiled into ThirdParty
- ParaView-3.98.0 binary extracted to /opt
- paraview-3.14.1 installed from the ubuntu repo
- alias paraview="/opt/ParaView/ParaView-3.98.0-Linux-64bit/bin/paraview" in ~/.bashrc

Behavior:

1. no sourcing of OpenFOAM bashrc:

- 'paraview' is taking the alias from the ~/.bashrc and running paraview-3.98.0 from binary extracted package
- works

2. sourcing of OpenFOAM bashrc:

- 'paraview' error
- I am not sure which paraview now should be started. The one from OF-ThirdParty or the alias one.

Changes:

To get access to the paraview 3.14.1 ubuntu package, I changed my ~/.bashrc to

1. alias runParaview="/opt/ParaView/ParaView-3.98.0-Linux-64bit/bin/paraview"

Behavior:

1. no sourcing of OpenFOAM bashrc:

- 'paraview' executes ubuntu repo paraview-3.14.1
- 'runParaview' executes the alias in ~/.bashrc and runs paraview-3.98.0 from the extracted binary package in /opt

2. sourcing of OpenFOAM bashrc:

- 'paraview' starts the OpenFOAM ThirdParty paraview-3.14.1 (not the repo version)
- 'runParaview' executes alias in ~/.bashrc and crashes

Conclusion:

1. ParaView crashes when it is run as alias from a ~/.bashrc and an OpenFOAM-2.1.x bashrc is sourced and a ParaView is build into ThirdParty

2. I am speaking only for my configuration which is mentioned above
