Hi,
i am new in this forum. i am having problem using paraview. actually i am doing small simulation of gassphere using gadget 2.0.7. i am scudded in runing it also. but when i tried to visualize the file created by gadget using paraview i got an error. it shows that the file is not supported by the paraview. but the paraview user guide says that it will support the gadget2 files. is there any solution. OR Behind using paraview is there any software which can visualize the gadget2 output files. Please someone help me. |

Then you better get a more up-to-date version. The latest is ParaView 3.14.1: http://www.paraview.org/paraview/resources/software.php
If you provided a small example file of gadget2, I could confirm if it will work properly with 3.14.1.

OK, I've confirmed that ParaView 3.8.0 will not open these files.
And also confirmed that ParaView 3.12.0 did open them successfully!

Hi Ballav,
Sorry about that, I forgot to mention that you should use the "All files" filter when searching for the files and then to use the "Gadget Files" reader for opening these files. When you use the Gadget format, it provides you with options to select which fields should also be loaded. Those options appear in the Object Inspector, in the section "Cell/Point Array Status". For me, it shows a sphere of points, as attached. As you can see on the top left side of the snapshot, where "VEL" is written, you can choose the field to be represented. Best regards, Bruno

Hi, Bruno
>Thank you very much for your help i am able to visualize the files. >But when i update my paraview software form 3.8 to 3.12 it visualize the files but when i again try to compile my Gadget2 make file then it shows following errors >"mpicc -O3 -Wall -DPEANOHILBERT -DWALLCLOCK -DSYNCHRONIZATION -DHAVE_HDF5 -I/usr/local/include -I/usr/local/include -c -o main.o main.c In file included from main.c:8:0: proto.h:10:18: fatal error: hdf5.h: No such file or directory compilation terminated. make: *** [main.o] Error 1" > it says that i dont have hdf5.h files in usr/local/include > again i install the hdf5 file by typing following commands "sudo apt-get install libhdf5-serial-dev" >then it installs it and then i am able to run make files. > but at this time when i try to run paraview it shows that there is no paraview installed you can install it by sudo apt-get install paraview. > so in brief when paraview is installed it will remove hdf5.h file and when hdf5.h is installed it will remove paraview. >do you have any idea > i am expecting your help please Regard, Ballav |

Hi Ballav,
I don't understand... Why are you installing ParaView 3.8 once again, if you have ParaView 3.12.0 installed separately? I was a bit vague in my instructions, but the idea is that:
