I would like some assistance with creating an open foam open channel model.
Can anyone point me to examples. Its just a very simple model that i need to start with and I have no experience with open foam. Perhaps there is a easier program to use? regards and thanks |

I would suggest starting with the dam break tutorial. Once you understand that I would change the boundary conditions to create an inlet and outlet. It will be 2D at this point, then you can work toward making it 3D.

Will this model handle a hydraulic jump by a feature on the floor of the channel? in 3d? |

Yes it will. I have been using it to model spillways and energy dissipation structures, and it seems to capture the hydraulic jumps in the stilling basins well. I think if you Google "spillway openfoam" you will find a few youtube videos showing a hydraulic jump...they are not mine, but I recall seeing them.

ok, thanks that sounds good.
have you had anything to do with FANS? (Finite-Analytic Navier-Stokes (FANS)) if so which do you think is the easier and more effective to use? |
