Hi all

I am look for a way to continue from my previous log file. Suppose I run a simulation for 2000 iteratins, using for example simpleFoam > log.

The simulation completes, and now I want to run for an additional 1000 iterations. Is there a way I can add these iterations to the first log file, or do I have to create an additional log file? If I run simpleFoam > log again, it overwrites the original log file, and the new one is only from iteration 2000 to 3000. I can do simpleFoam > log2, but then I have two logfiles, and I have to combine them to view residuals etc.

Is there a command to have the original log file appended with the new run data?

Regards

hi i tried that but it just adding the timesteps to the same file but its not staring from where it stopped, i mean it just starting from begining timestep by adding to the same file where it stopped. is there a way to start simulations from where it stopped?? i mean if the simulations stoped at 0.0106 deltaT but begin deltaT is 0.0002024, i want start simulation from deltaT =0.0106 not from 0.0002024?? can you tell me how to do that..Thanks in advance..

Hi Pranay,

You just have to adjust the startFrom parameter in your controlDict file to latestTime.

Have a look at the documentation : https://cfd.direct/openfoam/user-guide/v7-controlDict/

Quote:
startFrom Controls the start time of the simulation.
  • firstTime: Earliest time step from the set of time directories.
  • startTime: Time specified by the startTime keyword entry.
  • latestTime: Most recent time step from the set of time directories.

Cheers,
Yann
