Noob question:
I'm tasked with the turbulent flow simulation of a 2-D pitching flat plate (transient pitch up-down maneuver) - before I rack my brain with trying to get dynamic meshing working, is there a solver in OpenFOAM which will let me do this using an intertial reference frame??? Thanks for any advice... |

Is it something like this you want to do?
~/OpenFOAM/OpenFOAM-1.5-extend/tutorials/icoDyMFoam/movingBlockRBF |

thanks for the reply!
Hmm I don't have the OF1.5 extend version installed - is it the same as the OF1.5-dev? I have OF1.6 installed. Where can I get the version that you're using? From the name of the tutorial case file I gather it might be quite what I need...however mine is a flat plate with rounded edges and not a block. But anyway, where can I get this version of OF because that tutorial isn't in 1.6. However what I really wanted to know was whether there was a rotating reference frame solver that would do the job without having to deal with mesh motion. I know of MRFsimpleFoam but that is a steady state solver. Then, there is GGI but I don't know how to get that working and can't find any documentation on it. |

correct extend is the DEV-version
http://openfoam-extend.svn.sourcefor...nd/trunk/Core/ and you found out what Dev and Git(OF made by OpenCFD) distinguishes Dev has more Tutorials and features like GGI, viscoelastic ... when Hrv starts 1.6-dev these capabilaties will come to 1.6 but that is future. |

For anyone reading this, I ended up getting it done by using the GGI feature in 1.5-dev which was quite easy in the end.
However I'm still interested in the non-inertial reference frame approach for a transient solution - just so that I can justify the approach to use GGI. Can anyone point me in the right direction for information on how one might apply this approach? I can see how there might be some difficulty in handling the far-field boundary condition due to the rotation... |
