Yeah a question I can answer! ( im an OpenFoam newbee too)
Yes, it will work I have done it. Just transfer the mesh file to the linux system and use the fluentMeshToFoam utility you mentioned. Good Luck! Let me know how it goes. |

I have tried. The first time it displayed that: can't open file controlDict. so I copy a arbitrary file from other directory to the system of this case. And it works. But I don't know if the new mesh is right. I want to know the function of the controlDict file? If I shoule write something in it? Thank you. |

I think I may have had to do the same thing come to think of it. I viewed my mesh in paraview and it turned out well. Im not certian how all that controlDict stuff works yet either.
To test your mesh. Go to the directory it is in with the terminal using cd Then type: paraFoam If that doesnt work you may have to use foamToVTK to convert it to paraview format then manually open it with paraview. The openfoam user manual has a pretty good walkthrough for viewing your mesh once you have made it that far. Good luck! |

Because my paraview always can not run in terminal, You means that I can download an independent ParaView, change data to VTK , and manually open it with paraview? Thank you, I will try. |

You can download paraview independently or use the version that comes with foam. I believe typing "paraview" into the terminal should run it. My system is down or I would test it. It may be "paraView"
paraFoam is just a utility that switches the data around and presents it to paraview. I could not get my parafoam to work, thus i utilize foamToVTK to build the file that I view from the paraview gui. Once I get my system running again I might be able to provide some real instructions. Good luck |

Hi,
I'm relatively new to openfoam too, nevertheless: using a windows file under unix (linux) usually is posing only problems in case of a text file, where the carriage return symbol is different. most of the input files are stored in text mode, and so is the controlDict file, where the simulation procedure is described (time step, Starttime, endtime, simulation output etc.) you will need to edit it anyway according to your case. good luck, Carl |
