Hello,

I am new to OpenFoam (and finite volumes for that matter, I come from the finite element/finite difference world). While studying OF code, I have stumbled upon solidEquilibriumDisplacementFoam.C which solves the equations of linearized elasticity. I was wondering if there was any reason for implementing it the way it is (iterative, segregated) as opposed to just assembling and solving the original system of equations (as it is done in FEM, e.g.)? Rephrasing the question, is there any reason why there is an implementation of implicit Laplacian but no implicit div(twoSymm(grad(D))? I realise that the reason could be as simple as no one really needs the latter, but still?

Thank you in advance,
--Anton
