Hi foamers,
thanks to Hrvoje, the article I will present at the 2007 ASME-JSME Thermal Engineering Conference and Summer Heat Transfer Conference is now available on the powerlab website:

The title of the article is:
DEVELOPMENT AND VALIDATION OF A C++ OBJECT ORIENTED CFD CODE FOR HEAT TRANSFER ANALYSIS

It mainly concerns the implementation of a Steady-State Pressure-based All-Mach solver and a set of Low-Reynolds RANS compressible turbulence models (two-layer, k-omega sst, realizable k-epsilon) as well as the results obtained over several geometries typical of turbomachinery cooling systems (single and multi hole impingement, film cooling, effusion cooling).

Everyone is very welcomed to comment on that.

Luca, thanks for the post about your work.

Will you realse the code for the compressible turbulence models you mention above to the OpenFoam community?

I have an interest in using the compressible version of the k-w SST model.

Hi Shaun,

thanks for your interest about our work on OpenFOAM. All turbulence compressible models shown in the paper are suitable for subsonic and transonic cases. Mach correction for strong supersonic and hypersonic flows is not included in (see Pressure Diffusion and Pressure dilatation modeling, and this kind of flows are not our usual application field). All the models are still now under testing and we think that the final formulations can be released to OpenFOAM community in short time. At the moment we are working on k-w SST with automatic wall treatment, to avoid strong dependence on wall mesh.

Luca,

I read your paper because I'm using OF for a turboshaft powered aircraft. I've used rhoSimpleFoam with Spalart Allmaras for turboshaft nacelle analysis. I now would like to examine heat transfer between nacelle exhaust and the freestream. Does your work apply here, or is rhoSimpleFoam with SA appropriate? I'm thinking rhoSimpleFoam with one of your turbulence models might be a better choice.

Hi Doug,

Until now we have developed models suitable for internal heat transfer for the cooling blade. We don't use rhoSimpleFoam because cannot handle transonic flow so we have developed a pressure correction version for all-Mach flows.

Just started to work on external flow analysis. I think that for external aerodynamic Spalart Allmaras is the best model, but not so good for heat tansfer. Yes we can keep in touch and do some comparison between models to investigate which is the best for this kind of application.

Have you released the solver code for your modified rhoSimpleFoam, or do you think you can make it available?

Hi Loca,

I'm running a 2D flat wall-jet film cooling case. The velocity was very low so I chose an incompressible solver --pisoFoam, and modified it by adding the tempreture term. However, I didn't get a good result. So I want to know which solver did you pick? And how did you deal with the heat transfer in your case? Can you release the code?
