Summer School on Numerical Modelling and OpenFOAM
University of Zagreb, Croatia, 8-19 September 2008 Faculty of Mechanical Engineering (FSB), University of Zagreb, Croatia announce the Summer School for PhD students and young researchers in Zagreb. The idea of Summer School is to gather 5-10 students and OpenFOAM users each with their own project at the University of Zagreb, where they would work under supervision and help on numerical modelling, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and in particular OpenFOAM. The Summer School would be led by Professor Hrvoje Jasak, original OpenFOAM developer, with the assistance of local OpenFOAM experts. The Summer school is scheduled to take 10 working days. During the two weeks, the students would work on their project, exchange experiences with colleagues and have full access to supervisors with detailed knowledge of numerical methods and OpenFOAM software. If sufficient interest is shown, lectures on numerical modelling, Computational Fluid Dynamics, Object-Oriented Programming and C++ or various aspects of physical modelling will also be offered. Detailed lecture content and timetable will be decided in consultation with supervisors of attending students and attendees themselves. To ensure quality work and supervision, the number of places is limited. To apply, please write a one-page description of the project you wish to work on, with current problems and goals to be achieved at the Summer School. Applications are open to all students on MSc and PhD University courses, as well as young researchers in commercial companies with OpenFOAM experience. Please not this is NOT an introductory OpenFOAM course: significant understanding of the project and software is a pre-requisite for application. All applications will be reviewed by Organising Committee and successful applicants will be informed within 10 days of closure. Deadline for applications is 1 June 2008. Please direct all correspondence to hrvoje.jasak@fsb.hr. This event is sponsored by Wikki Ltd. and we are looking for further sponsors. Due to limited financial resources, attendees are expected to cover their own travel and accommodation expenses, ideally bringing a laptop computer with them. Preferential rates and student accommodation are currently being negotiated. For further details, visit the OpenFOAM Summer School web site or please contact prof. Hrvoje Jasak on hrvoje.jasak@fsb.hr. Links: http://www.fsb.hr http://www.wikki.co.uk

Dear All,
The 2008 Summer School on Numerical Modelling and OpenFOAM has now completed work and I would like to thank all attendees on behalf of the University of Zagreb. I hope you have had a good time, made new friends and are sharing your experiences with colleagues at home institutions. I am looking forward the the 2009 edition of the Summer School - any suggestions are welcome! Hrvoje Jasak

Hello Fabian,
I would say we have pushed several PhDs to their conclusion and I have had a great time dong it. However, as a part of the school and because students brought their own work, i cannot promise to publish the results until the students and their supervisors decide to do so. As a means of pressure I suppose we could name the attendees and their subjects, but I'd feel better with a permission from the people involved. The CD with presentations and teaching material is being prepared at the moment and will again be distributed to attendees. Hopefully., we will be better positioned next year - that is, if I get a positive mark at the end. Would you consider joining us in 2009? Hrv
