I’m currently trying to run a simulation examining unsteady flow as a result of shock waves using rhoCentralFoam. My case deals with an inlet in which I’m trying to choke the flow to examine the effects of non-critical flow conditions. During preliminary tests, my diffuser has no obstacle and is open, and the simulation runs as expected. However, when trying to implement a type of plug, I’m getting shockwaves that propagate out past the cowl and are creating high densities and very low speeds. Compared to similar studies, this shouldn’t be happening as the mass flow restriction has been minimal so far, and I believe it’s geometrical, and possibly related to the wall BC I have in the diffuser outlet. I understand that I could directly limit the mass flow through that patch, but I am trying to make it as similar as possible to related studies. Any help to figure this issue out is appreciated.
