Hello, I am trying to simulate the phenomena of transonic buffet over a supercritical airfoil - NASA SC(2)-0714. The shock boundary layer interactions in the flow lead to an oscillating lift and drag coefficient along with shock wave oscillation.
I'm using the NACA 0012 transonic tutorial as the starting point (same schemes and solution file). The mesh is pretty resolved, as calculating the y+ for the flow gives a max value of 4.1. The K Omega SST model is being utilized. The flow has Re = 2.8x10^6, Ma = 0.77 and alpha = 7 degree. At the beginning of the simulation, a few cycles of the shock takes place but soon the flow becomes steady and the force coefficients stabilize. I'm using the following paper as reference which shows continuously oscillating shock and coefficients - https://doi.org/10.1016/j.proeng.2013.03.123 Is this phenomena supposed to happen and am I misinterpreting the results in the paper? Or is there a problem with my simulation itself? |
