Hi guys,

This is a general question the answer to which I've struggled to find for a while now. I want to run a simulation that has a transient I'd like to get out of the way before I begin my averaging (say from 100-300 sec). With OF, the average at a given output is the average of all values prior. This makes time convergence an issue. What I'd like to do is to average 100-200 sec and the 200-300 sec separately and then compare the mean profiles to judge time convergence. The "dirty hack" would be to run simulation until 200 s and then restart the simulation using resetOnRestart.

My question is, is there another way to do this in one simulation run? I though window was a way to do this but I can't find documentation that explains it's use. I only see windowName appended to the mean file name at each output from the the averaging period up to the window. (Only 100-200 files have Umean_box1 for window of 100 and windowName box1).

These observations pertain to using OpenFOAM 2.4.0. Another option is to use periodicRestart with a given period which wipes the slate clean every period but that functionality exists in v16 and beyond I think.

Would appreciate help with this!

Thanks
