Hi OpenFOAM experts,

I am a prospective OpenFOAM user, who is using Fluent at present. I have some basic questions regarding OpenFOAm. Which are,
  • Is it possible to open the Fluent cas and dat files in OpenFOAM?
  • Is it possible to run calculations on computing nodes parallelly??, that is, is it possible to do partition of the computational grid and simulate parallelly on different compute nodes??
  • Does one require an additional pre-post processing software or these features are readily available in OpenFOAM??
  • Are the Multiphase models stable in OpenFOAm?? Especially the VOF model to simulate the interface of two phases??
Thanks in advance for your valuable answers.

Regards,

Novic

  1. I don't know much about Fluent, but you can import Fluent generated meshes into OpenFOAM quite easily.
  2. Of course, read the User's Guide
  3. There are plenty of pre- and post-processing applications available in OpenFOAM. ParaView is used for the visually appealing CFD pictures that you most likely know from Fluent.
  4. YES.

Please just read the User's Guide and the feature list. All those questions could have been answered by those two very prominent documents .

Hi Novic,

Yes, OpenFOAM can open Fluent cas and dat files. It supports parallel computing for IQ Brain Tests. Pre/post-processing is included. Multiphase models, including VOF, are stable.

Regards.
