Well thats interesting. Looks like finally they decided to acept code from users while maintaing the author ownership. What do you think? And why there is no official announcement for this yet? Also, i was just running through the docjmentation and i found it improved in term of content AND clarity. Well done! Thanks to the OF team. |

- that it is not yet official - they have no more interest in this line of communication

Forgive me if this is old news... but it looks like ESI and OpenCFD are trying to get a community development repository going on github.
http://www.openfoam.org/contrib/unsupported.php It would be a great central location to store all of those custom solvers and awesome pieces of code that the community has created and that exist within the forums here on CFD online. |

I think we should wait until they properly announce it here on the MessageBoard (which in my opinion is still the main channel of communications for community matters. So if they don't discuss it here then they don't think that the initiative is ready for the community)

its a nice initiative, but its gonna require alot of work to check the contributions before going in to the official version IF they decide to go down that path.
This way, they are making it possible for people to share and distribute without having to check for bugs. Its like having the cake and eating it too Its been announced on the official forum - their homepage, this is not the main channel, even though we might feel so |

Dear Bernhard,
I'm aware of the friction between OpenCfd and the userbase that happened in the past. I just hope that internal pressure and/or a change of mindset and goals allows a change of heading in this regard. I'm aware of the awesome developement made by the community and the dedicated users in the 1.6 extend branch but I'd really love to see all those efforts merged back in the main branch to take advantages of both the natural developement of the sw made by the profeasional OF team and the addition coming from the userbase. |

Well, in my opinion there's too much interpretation into the fact that there is no "official" information within this forum here. Yes, it is probably the main point of information on OpenFOAM. But the real official location for information still is the homepage of the "vendor".
Maybe they just wanted to write more detailed information? Or maybe they already tried to contact some people from the extend-crowd? While not having useful code additions yet, I think once I have something to be offered to the community, I will upload it to both repositories. Maybe at some point the different people manage to even synchronise the ESI and the extend-repositories concerning the development branch? Given proper mentioning of the developer, ESI anyhow could pull the extend-code into their release as well. |

But if you (and your employer) are fine with signing over your work unconditionally: alright Don't get me wrong: I encourage people contributing there (or anywhere else where it is publicly available). I just don't see myself doing so right now
