Hi all,

The problem of InterFoam solver when it comes to two different materials with high viscosity ratio has been already discussed in another topic and is confirmed according to the following (bug) report :

http://www.openfoam.org/mantisbt/view.php?id=156

Now, is there any other solver that can be used instead of InterFoam which doesn't make any problem in this special case?
Your help and suggestions would be much appreciated.

Cheers,
Saba

Have you tried to implement additional PISO iterations or switch to a PIMPLE mode as the mantis report recommends?

Hi Kyle,

I tried both approaches suggested in the report, but as it is mentioned, it takes too much time and even worse, the problem doesn't converge at all when the viscosity ratio gets higher, like 10e5!

Cheers,
Saba

Not sure about this, but if you are looking for options you might try multiphaseEulerFoam instead. In that case each phase has it's own momentum equation rather than a shared velocity field as in interFoam. Not sure if this will help or hurt the problem, but it is another thing to try. I would be curious to hear of your results.
