Hello to all experts and non-experts here in the forum.
I'am new to OpenFOAM (did some SimpleFoam simulations of a rotorblade), but it's the first time i am dealing with heat transfer. My questionis: Is there a way to calculate the heat transfer coefficient in OpenFAOM? I searched not only this forum. The only thread i found matching this question is from the year 2005 and OpenFOAM 1.5 and there was no solution found that time. Now we have 2012 and OpenFOAM 2.1 and i think there was alot of development in OpenFOAM, so i thought perhaps there is a simple or not so simple way of calculating the heat transfer coefficent. My case is really simple it's a stream in a pipe. lets say the pipewall is 500K and the inletstream is 200K. And i want the local heat transfer coefficient. Is there any application or function to calculate the heat transfer coefficient? With kind Regards Viktor |

Hallo,
I also have exactly the same situation. From forums, I understand that buoyantBoussinnesqSimpleFoam solver can be used for heat transfer. But for HTC, I think you need to first calculate the wallHeatFlux from the utility below (not sure if it will work for the latest versions). http://openfoamwiki.net/index.php/Contrib_wallHeatFlux The utility is obviously present in OF2.0.1 but I get an error when I try to use it. I am not sure what I can do about it. Time = 0 Selecting thermodynamics package hsPsiThermo<pureMixture<constTransport<specieTherm o<hConstThermo<perfectGas>>>>> --> FOAM FATAL ERROR: Attempt to return primitive entry ITstream : /localhome/bellurramesh/Thesis/ANalytical/test/constant/thermophysicalProperties::mixture, line 19, IOstream: Version 2.0, format ASCII, line 0, OPENED, GOOD primitiveEntry 'mixture' comprises on line 19 the word 'air' on line 19 the label 1 on line 19 the doubleScalar 28.9 on line 19 the label 1007 on line 19 the label 0 on line 19 the doubleScalar 1.84e-05 on line 19 the doubleScalar 0.7 as a sub-dictionary From function const dictionary& primitiveEntry::dict() const in file db/dictionary/primitiveEntry/primitiveEntry.C at line 159. hi raghu tejaswi
I was wondering if you found out why you got the error you posted above, if so what does it mean? I have seen a similar error myself and struggling to find an answer. I'm aware this is an old thread, I was hoping you would remember. regards dmck |
