Hi all,
After recently updating to OpenFOAM 2.1.0 I'm recieving an error when I try to run cases in which I use a symmetrical boundary condition......

The error I get is "essential value entry not provided"

Here is an extract from the boundary conditions file where the error is being called:

Quote:
symmetry
{
type symmetryPlane;
}
I don't know what "value" OF is looking for......

Any help greatly appreciated, thanks for your time.

Unfortunately I don't have any real suggestions, but it seems to be working fine for me. I haven't specified a value for "value" How is it specified in constant/polyMesh/boundary?

Hey MD, cheers for your reply

It's specifiesymmetry
{
type symmetryPlane;
nFaces 5080;
startFace 498840;
}
d as normal, with type symmetryPlane....
One thing I don't really understand is that for the symmetry bc's on velocity and pressure, there isn't a problem .... it only works for phi.

It seems however that the problem is solved if I delete the phi fields for all time and recalculate them.

Hello plm,

I am also facing the same issue. Previously I used OF-2.0.1. If I am using OF-2.1.0, I am getting the same error which you have mentioned. Do we need to delete the "phi" file and recalculate again? if we do like this means, past data may lose. Am I correct? Or do you find any other way? If So, please reply.

Regards
Prasanth.

In Blockmeshdict this is what I use:

leftZmin
{
type symmetryPlane;
faces
(
(4 5 6 7)
);
}

I also have a file which defines patches which is used by the initial flow variable dictionaries omega,p etc.. and there I have this:

leftZmin
{
type symmetryPlane;
}

Hello mihai,

symmetryPlane boundary condition is working fine when I am using OF-2.0.1. But the same case, If I want to continue in OF-2.1.0 means, Its giving strange errors like "essential value entry not provided".

But if we follow the same approach in OF-2.1.0 from scratch means, its works fine here too.

Regards
Prasanth.
