I am trying to make a project, in which my initial idea was to create a weather forecasting project involving both machine learning and cfd. So the plan was that by running simulations regarding weather nowcasting in OpenFOAM, I can train the Machine learning model and then input the real life data and compare with what happened exactly and check the accuracy.
But I have no idea whether I can use OpenFOAM in that way or not, and whether it's feasible or not. The machine learning part is anyways going to happen, but I am not sure about OpenFOAM at all. If someone can please direct me some knowledge or atleast a confirmation that OpenFOAM can be used for such techniques then it'll be great. |

Yes, it can in principle.
However, the best way of viewing OpenFOAM is as a toolbox. It contains all the tools you need to model most fluid flows, including the atmosphere (although some thought will be needed for humidity, which is key in weather forecasting). However, a toolbox won't build a car for you or tell you how to build a car. You have to have that knowledge yourself. Same with OpenFOAM. In other words, if you don't know anything about weather forecasting, then OpenFOAM is useless for you. |
