Lightbulb DNS/LES hybrid for turbulent channel flow?

The idea: Run a channel flow with DNS a few time steps, then interpolate the results into a LES a few larger time steps and with a rougher mesh, then back into DNS, and back and forth like that. Thinking about using pimplefoam or pisofoam.

Goal: See if it can reduce the computational cost without affecting accuracy to much.

Why: Sounds fun to try. Dont hate.

Does anyone know if someone have attempted it before or even if it can be done?
