Hello everyone!

Im wokring on applying the adjointOptimisationFoam solver to a axial fan optimization problem, however Im getting stuck on the influence of the MRF zone.

The axial fan consists of a blade and a guiding body.

I have designed a case which uses axis symmetry of the case to model only one blade with cyclicAMI boundary conditions. The rototating part is modelled with an MRF zone. This works very well with the simpleFOAM solver.

Now the next step is to optimize my design with the adjoint solver, I got the case and boundary conditions woking stable for a general case without rotation, however when I turn on the MRF the solver crashes with the problem seeming to be coming from the MRF and its boundaries, both at the guiding body static wall and the non rotating section.

I went to check the source code and it seems the adjointOptimisationFoam is build slightly different than the other solvers since its content in the application directory is very limited and most of its code is within the src directory nested in several layers. Its seems that the MRF is present in the simple part of the adjointOptimisationFoam but is missing in the adjoint part of the solver.

Im now wondering if the case that Im trying to simulate is actually possible to simulate? If anybody has any experience with MRF and adjointOptimisationFoam I would like to hear their stories.
Otherwise it seems that I should write a custom adjointOptimisationFoam that implements the MRF, however this seems more difficult than usual due to the unusual setup of the solver.

Im open to any feedback and advice!

Kind regards
