Overset mesh that overlaps surface in the background

Hi!
I am experimenting with the overset mesh capabilities of OpenFoam, but I have some problems. I have a stationary surface in the background mesh which is in close proximity to the moving overset mesh. This means that there is an overlap of cells in the overset region with the stationary surface, and so far this doesn't seem to be handled very well by my present setup. I have uploaded two images of my Paraview results (velocity magnitude). In the first image you see a foil that rotates and moves closer to a box, and in the second image you can see that the entire box is hidden by the overset region, and the flow field seem almost undisturbed. There is also a uniform inflow from left to right, so I should see a higher velocity in the narrow region, but I don't see any. (Don't pay much attention to the mesh resolution - it is coarse and suboptimal, but it's only for quick testing purposes.) Is this possible to do in OpenFoam? I also see from the 'twoSimpleRotors' test case that there is some overlapping of the two rotors, but I can't say that the results look exactly sublime there either (see third image). What can I expect of the results in these overlapping regions? Can this be handled properly by OpenFoam? If so, what must I do to have a realistic model? |
