Hello All,

I'm very new to CFD & OpenFoam. Currently reading up and trying tutorials.
With the various solvers available, I would like to know which solver(s) might be suitable for my uses in the future.

I am looking to simulate an array of Photovoltaics Modules on rooftop, to estimate wind flow and heat transfer.
Since there are solar radiation, PV as blackbody, as well as natural wind(low speed), I'm probably looking at Laminar | Incompressible | Newtonian | Transient | Blackbody Radiation | Solar Radiation | Heat transfer

Will greatly appreciate any input/ guidances.

Thanks!

Hi,

maybe try ChtMultiRegionFoam? I think it should fit, since you have multiple regions (assuming your PV module is solid). I think it should be able to add radiation to this solver, however i have never done this. You might need to come up with some smart workarounds to realize all constraints, but considering you have a solid body interacting with a flow and heat is exchanged, i would probably choose this solver.

Cheers

Bloerb will become famous soon enough
chtMultiRegion does what you want. Take a look at these tutorials:

tutorials/heatTransfer/chtMultiRegionFoam/externalSolarLoad
tutorials/heatTransfer/chtMultiRegionFoam/solarBeamWithTrees

Laminar | Incompressible | Newtonian | Transient | heat transfer are straight forward. Normal/solar radiation boundary conditions etc are also available.
