Dear Foamers,

I am using OF version 8, I am trying to simulate H2 dispersion in the air using rhoReactingbuoyantFoam. I have disabled chemistry and combustion, I have managed to run the solver, in order to validate the solver I am using data from this technical paper.

Fiates, J., & Vianna, S. S. V. (2016). Numerical modeling of gas dispersion using OpenFOAM. Process Safety and Environmental Protection, 104, 277–293. https://doi.org/10.1016/J.PSEP.2016.09.011

The CFD test case which I have used for validation comprises of 1x0.1x0.05 geometrical structure with a 2.7mm diameter at the center.

Inlet velocity = 321 m/s and the Temperature of the methane gas is 260K.

I tried to validate the methane mole fraction decay with the provided simulation data and experimental data in the published paper.

For the same given case, my simulation model is over predicting the methane concentration decay over the axial length.

I have attached the plot and the case file.

I have taken the thermophysical properties from the tutorial case file.

Any kind of assistance to resolve my case file will really help me a lot.

Thank you

Hi
Akshay, I was wondering did you manage to simulate H2 dispersion with OpenFOAM. I am looking into same problem and was wondering what is the best solver and boundary conditions for the simulation. I assume for H2 dispersion we should also account for heat transfer between ground, air and liquid hydrogen pool? I am looking at chtMultiRegionTwoPhaseEulerFoam solver which seems to be designed to handle similar type problems. Have you used this solver and any advice or sample case that you can share would be really appreciated.

Regards
Ashkan
