Setup for rotating deflected wheel - seeking comments

Hi, After successfully running a magnus effect cylinder with pimpleFoam, my next challenge is to run a case with part of a car having a rotating wheel, but since no tire is perfectly hard, I want to simulate a compressed rotating tire. The attached file shows the physical setup describing how I hope to achieve this.
To simulate tire deflection, I want to have a slab representing the ground, with a divot in it to account for tire deflection. Of course, the lateral tire bulge won't be present, so that is a bit of compromise. The tire and wheel b/c will be rotatingWallVelocity. Regarding the ground slab, I think that it will be necessary to separate it in separate areas, with the divot itself being rotatingWallVelocity, and the upper surface as fixedValue according to the flow velocity. The leading and trailing faces of the slab, as well as the sides and bottom, will be wall. This setup could be somewhat involved, and could have a showstopper flaw. Before I get too far into it, I invite comments from any and all, as to the feasibility. Thanks, and I hope to hear from you. |
