I'm pretty new to OpenFOAM and for my thesis i'm trying to simulate a rudder in the slipstream of right outside of the slipstream of a propeller. In order to reduce the required computational power, i'm using a actuator disk for the propeller.
The problem I run into is that my mesh has to be really small in order for the simulation to run without crashing when i'm using the actuator disk. Without the AD this is not really a problem.
Does anyone have any tips on how to efficiently model an actuator disk?

May help?

and AFAIK, there are plenty of relevant OpenFOAM applications in the literature and web.
