VyKites is on a distinguished road
Hi all, does anyone have an idea on how to create a flight simulation of kites in OpenFOAM? I'm looking for one but there are none. Apparently I saw a video in youtube (a short clip) that features a flight simulation of kites in OpenFOAM. That gave me an idea that it is possible. I tried to contact the uploader but he didn't respond. Thank you and have a great day

Wow, how to answer this one. Perhaps like this ...

1. OpenFOAM is a toolbox, with a fantastic set of tools that are very powerful in the hands of a skilled user. Like any tool, they need a lot of knowledge, learning, practice and experience to wield.
2. OpenFOAM could certainly model the airflow around a kite, the resulting forces and therefore the dynamics of the kite. That is to say - all the tools are present that you'd need.
3. To do so, you need to learn the tool, learn the trade (CFD) and then you'll be in a position to do the analysis.

Let me offer an analogy - I go to a shop, buy a box of paints and a paintbrush and then say to the shopkeeper "I want to paint Leonardo's Last Supper, please tell me how." I don't think that I would have much success in that scenario.

If you do have plenty of fluid mechanics knowledge and CFD experience, perhaps have a think about how you might phrase your question to be more specific, on a topic that someone in the forum might be able to answer.

Good luck!
