Hi Foamers,
I need to simulate the flow through an expansion device (basically a throttling process having Joule-Thomson effect) using openFoam 1812. I have gone through the tutorials as well as the forum but still am not sure what solver to use! The cavitatingFoam tutorial is not applicable... The problem to be solved is as follows: A saturated liquid at an elevated pressure P1 passes through an expansion device and forms a two phase flow at a reduced pressure P2. The process is pressure driven without reaction and due to the throttle, temperature changes. I am not specifically interested in temperature change (as it can be indirectly calculated from pressure) but am stuck to pickup the best solver for this. Any advice is very much appreciated. Hello,
have you tried sonicFoam? Thanks, Nicoḷ |

Dear Nicoḷ,
Thanks for your reply . I believe sonicFoam should not be used (please correct me if I am wrong) as the flow velocity is rather small... Am currently working on interPhaseChangeFoam (still not sure if it is the correct solver)... Have you had similar experience? Any recommendations? Regards, MJ |

Hey MJ
do you have any update on the solver? did it work with interPhaseChangeFoam? regards |
