Default high porosity values causing flow instability

ufocfd is on a distinguished road
I'm increasing the porosity values (below) in simpleFoam such that the porous media is causing quite low speed flow eg 0.5m/sec... but when I try to reduce the speed even more it becomes unstable. Is there any way to stabilise the porosity solver for very high values of "d"?

d d [0 -2 0 0 0 0 0] (2.0e+09 1.0e+11 1.0e+11); // viscous
f f [0 -1 0 0 0 0 0] (0 0 0); // inertia
