Default Steady-state solution as IC for transient simulation

Hello everyone,

I wish to run a transient simulation with interFoam using as ICs the results from a prior steady-state model. The grid and BCs are exactly the same for both models.

I aim to simulate the flow discharge of an alluvial river, so the inlet is constrained by a variableHeightFlowRateInletVelocity BC, based on a user-specified volumetric flow rate, whereas at the outlet is applied a totalPressure BC to allow the flow running unconstrained out of the domain.

The only thing that changes between both models is the flowRate parameter of the variableHeightFlowRateInletVelocity BC, that is constant in the steady-state simulation and time-varying in the transient one.

If I set "latestTime" as starting time of the transient simulation in the controlDict file, the model will take automatically the results from the time directory corresponding to last simulated time of the steady-state simulation. However, the U file within that time directory, will include a constant flow rate value, which doesn't work for a transient simulation.

Therefore, my question is: how can I use the results from the steady-state model together with a time-varying flow rate table from the beginning of the transient simulation?

Many thanks in advance.

You could open the U file of your latest time, search for the boundary you need to change and change just that

Hello!

Indeed, I replaced the constant flowRate value by a table of values, and it worked! Thank you so much for the help.

I have another small question: when defining the flowRate table, the first row of the matrix should include the same time as the time directory and the volumetric flow rate value corresponding to the previous steady-state simulation, right? Else, the model won't take the right values for each simulated time.
