Discussion on AMR with interFoam

Hello Foamers
I am about to start working with AMR in interFoam (interDyMFoam). I would like to know what are its limitations and what kind of problem can it solve. Some of the limitation I think there is AMR works in 3D and not in 2D. Also is there any ways I can control the division of cells in AMR. Like I want my grid to remain Cartesian if it is Cartesian. Thanks |

Hello Again,
So I found out AMR works in 2D as well as 3D but the boundary condition can't be empty now in the third direction. AMR works for 2D problem if the boundary condition in the 3rd direction is cyclic(periodic) or symmetry. I have verified this through a vortex stretching test case, static bubble and a rising bubble. AMR gives very good result for the vortex stretching case. But fails in the static bubble case. So now I am again in doubt. Is AMR good only to give better preservation of mass and not the balance between Surface Tension and Pressure forces? Information about the case setup used in static bubble test case is as following: A circular bubble of radius r=0.005at equilibrium kept at (0.025,0.025) in a square domain of 0.05×0.05. Density ratio of 1000. Surface Tension =0.01. For the given parameters the analytical solution is ∆=2. Plot at t=0.1, ∆X=1/100 and ∆t=5e-6.
