Hello all,
I am using Smagorinsky LES in a dual wind turbine simulation. I use almost the same LES properties as given here. The problem is, I expect to see the minimum axial velocity just after the rotor and it it increases as I go further downstream. Now if I use RANS k-e turbulence model, I pretty much get this. But with LES, the exact opposite happens, the recovery is so small (or maybe it does not even exist), the axial velocity can't get the chance to increase as it goes downstream and even slows down due to downstream turbine. I can see this in velocity profiles. I guess I am doing something wrong with the turbulence model but can not figure out what. Any ideas would be very helpful.
Thanks in advance.

Hi hconel,

Is your domain just the picture you present or is it bigger? Have you tested one single turbine in a big domain to see how the wind flow behaves?

In case you did it, could you post it? How is your mesh resolution and what is the size of your domain and turbine?

Best Regards,
Luis

You need to give more details, like how is the ratio of cell size vs kolmogorov number, sgs tke to resolved tke, Courant number, schemes used, etc
