Hello everyone, I am new with OpenFoam and I may lack some basis so I am sorry for that. I have a problem in choosing a combustion solver.


So, my task is to simulate a flame out of a burner. For this task I have three inlets, two are the same where only air is present and the last one consists of a premixed mixture of air and methane. By the way, the mixture inlet is located between the other two. You can think of it as vertical line divided into three parts where the middle part is the mixture inlet and where the upper and lower inlets only have air flow.Also, I am calling them inlets but in reality they are the outlet of the burner but for now I am only interested in simulating the flame and not what happens inside the tubes of the burner.



From what I read, XiFoam is the solver to use for premixed combustion, but I don't find the way to configure the inlets according to the task (2 inlets with only air and 1 inlet with a air-methane mixture.)



My question then is; Does XiFoam offer me the possibility to do it and I missed it or should I use another solver and in this case which one do you think I should turn to?

Does every inlet act as an independent boundary? Normally you can set up every boundary individually. If it's not the case you have define every inlet as an own boundary in your meshing tool.

XiFoam should to the job. I personally prefer PaSR, which is pretty slow but gives very good results.

Hello, thank you for your answer and I am sorry for the late reply.

I didn't understand your question quite well but I think that the inlets are independent. Well, maybe I wasn't clear in my explanation.
Also, I am not an OpenFoam expert so what is PaSR and how to use it because I can't find it in the combustion solvers.

As you can see in the picture, there is an air inlet and a gas inlet; well actually in my case in the gas tube there should be a premixed gas/air mixture. What I am interested in is the flame at the oultlet of the burner that means that for my simulation inlet refers to the outlet of the burner. For now I am not interested in what happens inside of the tubes.

So what I am looking for is a slover that can simulate premixed combustion and where I can specify for each inlet the components I have (only air, air+methane).

I hope this is more clear and I thank you for your replies.
