Hello,
I am running a fire simulation in a compartment and I would like to implement a ventilation model for the mechanical ventilation system.. I would like to use multiscale modelling method which means that I would represent the ventilation network with a 1D model. I am still a beginner with OpenFOAM and I would like to develop a 1D model for the ventilation network. Is that possible solely with OpenFOAM or woud I have to use another software to implement a 1D model and couple it with OpenFOAM. |

In general, OF works with 3d (unavoidable). There exist a b.c. to reduce the complexity to 2 or (rarely used) 1 dimensions: empty. You need to use only 1 element in the dimension(s) you wish to suppress.
There are many examples for 2D, from which you may learn how to set an 1D geometry.

@piu58: Thanks for your reply. Where can I find the examples for the 2D. Are they the ones in OpenFOAM tutorials? Am guessing it will still be possible to set a boundary condition that I would be using in the 1D model. When you say i need to only use 1 element in the dimensions I wish to suppress, am guessing you mean during setting up by mesh right?
Best regards |

Yes, I meant these. > only use 1 element in the dimensions I wish to suppress, am guessing you mean during setting up by mesh right? yes.

Thanks a lot.
Is it also possible to create a solver that can solve the 1D geometry in OpenFOAM using the governing equations but for one dimensional case. Thanks. |
