sepp.zell is on a distinguished road
Dear community,

I am currently trying to simulate a flow in a periodic domain. The periodic structure consists of (parts of) cylinders.

For meshing the geometry I am using snappyHexMesh with a stl-geometry file.

I am using the boundary conditions as explained here: Periodic Inlet/Outlet Boundary Condition
Thus I try to prescribe a mean velocity (in x-direction) and want to obtain the pressure loss over the periodic structure.
I thought that the flow in x-direction is periodic, i.e., inflow = outflow in the periodic domain. However, when I duplicate the domain in paraFoam, the flow profile at inlet and outlet is not the same.

As one can see there is a discontinuity between the two parts of the periodic domain. Am I wrong to expect continuity of the velocity? The pressure drop looks OK.

Attached you find my files for executing the case. Maybe someone of you can have a look if everything is correctly set up.

If some more data are needed, please tell me.

Thank you in advance for your answers and your help.

Regards

Sebastian
