Hello,

I'm a beginner with OpenFoam and currently I'm doing the simulation of underwater floating object with intact and damaged condition.

My project is quite similar with this paper "Investigation on a damaged ship model sinking into the water based on three dimensional SPH method" but I'm not using SPH to validate the exp results.

My floating object is a buoyancy tank (cylindrical shape) and it was moored with nylon line. The problems is, I have 3 cases for damaged condition and each of it represent different position and size of holes.

What I want see is that what will happens to the damaged floating object (cylinder) when I put the cylinder in the calm water, and the water enters in the cavity in the cylinder.

1) Will the cylinder float ?
2) Will it sink ? If it sink, either it will completely sink to seabed or it will float but the position at Z already reduce ?
3) What is the new position of cylinder when the water enters into the damage cylinder ?
4) Is there any function that indicate weight of floating object increase (mass of water displaced + mass of floating object) vary with time so the position of the floating object at Z direction will be changed also ?

Currently I'm trying to running the floating object below the water surface for intact condition to benchmark the position, but at somehow, it crash at the middle of simulation.

So, I really need help you guys to solve this issue.

Thank you.

Best regards,
Han

At least, kindly please give me some solution or hint to start my simulation.

Thank you.

Kind regards,
