Hi everyone,

I am currently learning how to use OpenFOAM and has some problem in trying to understand the software. I'm just wondering in OpenFOAM what are the types of calculations used to simulate wind? Thank you. Your help will be greatly appreciated.

I guess you should be a little bit more precise with your question, as it is hard to get what exactly you want to know. But let me try:
Most of the OpenFOAM solvers calculate the Navier-Stokes equations in either compressible or incompressible form. And they almost always use a turbulence model of one sort or another. The OpenFoam solvers itself can be steady-state (e.g. simpleFoam) or transient solvers (e.g. pisoFoam). Any of these can be used to simulate wind.

Hi Robert,

For the calculations, I was just wondering what the calculations OpenFOAM use for simulating the wind flow because I am planning to program a wind analysis tool that uses the calculation from government standards that could eventually simulate the wind flow. But thank you for your reply. It is is the answer that I wanted to know about and it's very helpful.
