I'm trying to obtain both steady-state and time-tracked solution for a plane jet issuing into an environment. I have run simpleFoam and pimpleFoam with identical bounday and initial conditions. The results are shown below, with the pimpleFoam solution at approximately 0.1s after start.
I understand simpleFoam offers the steady state solution. So, with identical initial conditions, the time-stepping solution for pimple will approximate the simple-solution once it has reached statistically steady state. However as is obvious from the figure, the two solutions are very very different. In particular the centreline decay drop is very fast for Simple, while the pimple solution approximates experimental conditions more accurately. What is going on here? |
