Hello Foamers,
i'm running a scalar Transport case in OpenFOAM 3.0.1 (Ubuntu 14.04) aiming to do an analysis of the residence time distribution. Since my input velocity field comes from a turbulent pimpleFoam simulation i followed the advice given here by D. Combest to add the necessary support for turbulent diffusivity and the additional term to ensure boundedness. I'm using the fvSchemes and fvSolution entries from the tutorial case. I'm running the mapFields utility to map the simulated velocity field onto my transport case. The simulation runs fine, without any errors. I'm aware of the problem with the field phi calculation in scalarTransportFoam but this should be avoided by the addition suggested by D. Combest. mapFields sadly does not map my original phi field to the transport case but writes a phi.unmapped file. But the concentration at my outlet does not reach 100% of the input and caps at 0.51. Can anyone help me to fix this problem? Regards, Robert /edit: fvSchemes fvSolution Last edited by RobertHB; December 9, 2016 at 08:53. Reason: added fvSchemes and fvSolution files |

I tested the standard scalarTransportFoam as my custom TransportFoam with the pitzDaily tutorial case. For the test case both solvers do get anywhere close to 1.0 reaching the highest concentration at the outlet with 2 - 3e-5 of my input scalar. For my own case both solvers reach up to 0.5 of my input scalar.
Do you have any idea how this problem can be fixed? |

Successfully ran the simulation.

Ran the transport simulation with the above mentioned fvSchemes and fvSolution files on a case without a stl file as solid boundary. The solver does reach 100% of the input scalar under these circumstances. But as soon as the same model is applied to a case with a stl boundary the solution does not reach the 100%.

Hello together,
i ran a second model with a different stl topography yesterday. The code runs fine, but as soon as i add a stl file instead of a flat wall BC the solution does not reach 1.0. It instead converges at a value of 5.0 this time. |

Hi RobertHB,
Did you find a solution to your problem ? I'm experiencing the same problem with the interFoam solver on OF6 by using the scalarTransport function in my controlDict file (my scalar reach 60% of the total concentration in a mixing model, although there is no diffusion/source or well term in my transport equation). Also if possible, could you please share again your fvSolutions/fvSchemes/controlDict files ? Maybe my problem is as simple as an error in these files. Thanks |
