Export the velocity field to reuse it in a different simulation

Hi! I have a quite simple geometry designed with a blockMesh and a flow simulated with simpleFoam by now. What I'd like to do is to "cut" the geometry at a specific z value (as can be seen in the image), and extract the different fields (p, U, k, w, ...) from this plane so I can use them as inlet BCs for a second simulation in which this plane would be the inlet (cutting literally the geometry, you can imagine the second case as just the same "box" without the part at the left).
In my blockMesh dict I have just specified a single block. Therefore, the specified plane (for example, at z=0.2) is NOT a patch, wall or anything, is just part of the internal field between the inlet and the outlet. I expect to do this without the need of defining more blocks, but if it was the only way... I would consider it. By now, the only thing that I have found is the mapFields utility, but I am not sure whether it would be useful for this case or not. I would really appreciate to know which documents/elements I should change or add since I am quite new to openFoam and some commands are not clear enough yet to me. Thanks in advance! |

Hi!
Have you managed to go through this? I have a similar problem... Using mapfields to initialise a new simulation from a velocity field calculated using different settings... All the best, Giulio |
