Hello,
I have a strange behaviour maybe somebody has a hint how to solve. I bought an old Workstation with two XEON cpu's having six cores each (means with HT 2x6x2 = 24 max processes.) The strange thing is, that Openfoam always uses only 50% of the performance, means only 3 kernels from each cpu. Even if I start 3 times Openfoam each with 6 processes (for meshing 3 regions), it does not use the other 6 cpu's. Is there any linux crack who knows what could be the reason? When I use additionally another software e.g. paraview, this software uses the other 3 cores. Best, Tobi |

Additional Information:
at simulation with simpleFoam with 12 processes, it is distributed well on all 12 cores. The problem appears only when starting complete independent instances. (This I need, as I mesh always 3 independend regions and afterwards merge them) |
