Dear all,
short question in hope someone can point me in the right direction:
Is there a standard solver for simulating (unsteady) Joule heating in a solid?
Best regards,
Matthias

Hi Matthias,

You can define a heat source by means of the use of the fvOptions framework within the system directory regardless of its nature, I guess this is what you are looking for... If you want to know how to do so, just take a look at my web site where I explain this procedure in a couple of very simple cases you may be interested in.

Hope it helps.

Best regards,

Alex

The case I talk about in this site was solved with chtMultiRegionSimpleFoam solver and involves radiation. Some basic tutorials are also resolved step by step in the web. If you are interested in these matters, you are invited to come in!

Hello, dear visitors of the forum. I installed on my ubunt 16.04 package openfoam-dev. In my task, the resistance heater through radiation melts the substance in the crucible. Despite the fact that the package "...- dev" is often updated, I do not find there a solver "chtMultiRegionSimpleFoam" to simulate Joule heating. I know that this solver is in “OpenFOAM-v1706” and in -v1812 ". But I can not use two versions of Open Foam at the same time for one multiphysical task. How can I manage to use Open Foam-dev?"
