Additional 2D solve at an inlet patch during each iteration of a usual 3D solve

Hi,
during a usual 3D solve, I need (at each iteration) to solve an additional 2D problem defined on the inlet patch of the 3D problem. Thus, the domain of the 2D problem is itself the inlet patch of the 3D domain. For the 2D problem, I will have terms like the (surface-)laplacian and need to set new boundary conditions for 2D problem (at the boundary of the boundary, hence this is a line or a circle). I know, how to set-up these two problems with different case folders, however, since the 2D domain is the same as the inlet of the 3D domain and the 2D solve is needed at each iteration during the usual 3D solve (simpleFoam), I was wondering if OpenFOAM already offers us the ingredients to tackle this problem within the same code without the necessity to create additional case folders or mesh set-up? Or do I really have to create two different cases, where one of which is a 2D set-up, with exactly the same mesh as the inlet of the 3D domain, and then to perform field mappings of state variables back and forth during each iteration of the main 3D run? If so, how could I do this? Do you have any other suggestions? I hope, I could clearly state the problem... Many thanks in advance! |
