Hi, I am trying to evaluate thermal comfort on a seated human body - attached is the first simulation [the domain is not visible but it is a cube with overhead inlet and outlet points] I intend to do to get some initial results and from there I eventually want to create a simulation of an aircraft cabin xsection with one or two passengers seated>
The human model is divided into boundary patches, head torso, left arm, left hand and so forth so as to impose individual thermal boundary conditions. I am using opensource linux software, blender, engrid and openFOAM and have some issues: Question1: I am having trouble creating a prismatic boundary layer around the human form in engrid, it gives me an error message stating overlapping faces - any ideas what is wrong? Boundary layer is critical to this case. Question2: Has anyone used boussinesque aproximation for such a case and does anyone have experience in imposing thermal flux boundary conditions in openfoam? thanks very much g |

Dear eaglemckenna,
can you share your STL files? Bye Thomas

Hi
Sorted out problems with my mesh and engrid - I received advice on this to use salome mecha or snappy hex mesh but thankfully I managed to improve the model in blender and develop a really nice divided prismatic boundary layer and volume mesh around a highly detailed human figure - with a view to assessing the contribution thermal flux on a human body has to the surrounding air - out of interest has anyone used openFoam results of a buossinesque heat transfer case to determine a Fanger PMV rating for thermal comfort? - I have yet to work out how to achieve this. see attached I have a .begc file, I will try and share it as soon as I can thanks |

Can you share the models you have used and the procedure that you followed. I have to run a similar kind of simulation for my thesis, thermal comfort in a Bus. It would be great help, if you can provide me with whatever information you have. Thanks in advance. |
