hello, I am trying to make a simulation with an irregular domain, but I donīt know how to set the parameter "characteristic length" to determine Re number, or if the system determines the value, how it does? or uses the definition of hydraulic diameter.
I really apprecciate any response to this question? Thanks in advance. |

Hi Miguel,
if you put a picture of your geometry and domain, members can help you properly. Last edited by rapierrz; July 6, 2015 at 04:18. |

thanks, i attached the screenshot of my simulation, my biggest question is how OpenFOAM calculate the characteristic length of a domain like this, or where is the file with that info?

I think openFoam doesn't calculate the characteristic length of the domain.
Reynolds number only determine the regime of the flow and when you don't know this is laminar or turbulent you must use DNS simulation. for numerical simulations often determine hydrolic diameter to calculate Reynolds number and in irregular shapes it's usually difficult. |
